Do you have a shark in your tank

The Japanese have a great liking for fresh fish.
But the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades.
So, to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever.
The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring back the fish.
The longer it took them to bring back the fish, the stale they grew.
The fish were not fresh and the Japanese did not like the taste.
To solve this problem, fishing companies installed the freezers on their boats.
They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea.
Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.
However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen fish.
And they did not like the taste of frozen fish.
The frozen fish brought a lower price.
So, fishing companies installed fish tanks.
They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin.
After a little hashing around, fishes stopped moving.
They were tired and dull, but alive.
Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference.
Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste.
The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.
The fishing industry faced an impending crisis!
But today, it has got over that crisis and has emerged as one of the most important trades in that country!
How did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem?
How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan ?
To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks.
But now they add a small shark to each tank.
The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state.
The fish are challenged  and hence are constantly on the move.
And they survive and arrive in a healthy state!
They command a higher price and are most sought-after.
The challenge they face keeps them fresh!

Humans are no different.
L. Ron Hubbard observed in the early 1950's: "Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment."
George Bernard Shaw said: " Satisfaction is death!"
If you are steadily conquering challenges, you are happy. Your challenges keep you energized.
They keep you alive!
_Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!_

MORAL: If you look healthier, younger and energetic, then definitely there is a shark in your tank

Be like a Sunflower

Sunflowers đŸŒģ turn according to the position of the sun. In other words, they “chase the light.” You might already know this, but there is another fact that you probably do not know!
Have you ever wondered what happens on cloudy and rainy days when the sun is completely covered by clouds?🤔
This is an interesting question.Isn’t it?
Perhaps you think the sunflower withers or turns its head towards the ground. Is this what crossed your mind?
Well, that’s incorrect!
This is what happens?
They turn towards each other to share their energy.đŸŒģđŸŒģ
Nature’s perfection is amazing. Now let’s apply this reflection to our lives. Many people may become low-spirited, and the most vulnerable ones, sometimes, become depressed.
How about following the example of the beautiful sunflowers đŸŒģi.e."Supporting and empowering each other". Nature has so much to teach us.

Wishing everyone a "Sun flower"đŸŒģ trait of turning towards each other on their cloudy and gloomy days.
Spread goodness..it will come back to you..

Knowledge centric jobs are the way ahead for the future

Large companies in North America and Europe are now losing over 250,000 jobs each year in IT, finance, and other key business services areas, due to the combined impact of offshoring, technology-driven productivity improvements, and the low-growth business environment, according to a new research update from The Hackett Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: HCKT). While the number of jobs being lost annually will decline over the next few years, The Hackett Group now estimates that by 2017 nearly half of all back office jobs at these companies that existed in North America and Europe in 2002 will have disappeared -- a total loss of 3.7 million jobs.

But even this assessment could be optimistic, as it factors in job creation due to economic growth. The IMF and others are now looking at shrinking short-term global growth projections, and more than half of the European Union countries have returned to recession in early 2013. So even the modest job creation assumptions in the Hackett model may prove to be overly optimistic.

While the total labor demand continues to shrink, The Hackett Group's research also sees the "war for talent" entering a new phase, driven in part by the further globalization of business. The need for transactional staff is decreasing dramatically, while the demand for knowledge-centric staff is increasing. The Hackett Group finds a critical talent shortage, most clearly for knowledge-centric staff with the skills to help enable global business operations.

"For many people in North America and Europe seeking jobs in corporate finance, IT, or other business services areas, our research offers a bleak picture to be sure," said The Hackett Group President of Advisory and Research Sean Kracklauer. "The evolving offshore job market and the maturing of Global Business Services operations has simply eliminated many of the jobs that used to exist in IT, finance, and other business services areas. But at the same time, new opportunities are presenting themselves. Staff that can develop the knowledge-centric skills that companies need to support their companies' shift to Global Business Services, and overall globalization goals, will find themselves in great demand."

The Hackett Group's research estimated that 265,000 business services jobs will disappear in North America and Europe in 2013, in the tail end of a spike in job losses which began with the recession in 2008. In 2009 alone nearly 750,000 jobs were lost, and an average of 365,000 jobs have been lost each year since 2008. In 2014 and moving forward, The Hackett Group estimates that job losses will continue, but will shrink each year, declining to 133,000 jobs lost in 2017.

Of the baseline of about 8 million business services jobs that existed in North America and Europe in 2002, The Hackett Group's research estimates that 46 percent, or 3.7 million jobs, will have disappeared by 2017, including 1.4 million jobs in corporate finance and 1.5 million jobs in corporate IT. All these estimates incorporate jobs lost due to offshoring and productivity improvements (which have remained stable at about 3 percent each year), offset by jobs created due to economic growth.

Even these job loss estimates could be conservative, The Hackett Group's research explained, given that economic uncertainty remains exceptionally high. European Union (EU) statistics published this past May indicated that nine out of the thirteen EU countries using the euro returned to recession in Q1 of 2013. The International Monetary Fund has also repeatedly made downward adjustments to its short-term growth projections, which have dropped by more than a third over the past two years. In addition, the main engine of growth has clearly shifted from developed markets to emerging markets in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and elsewhere. While corporate profitability is at historically high levels, companies are focused on reducing fixed costs, further impacting on job creation.

The Hackett Group's research details how a major factor in the offshoring of business services and the overall job losses is the expanded use of Global Business Services (GBS) organizations, an evolution of the shared services approach. Unlike most shared services operations, which focus on a single function, GBS organizations strive to support an array of business services, including finance, IT, procurement, and human resources, in an integrated fashion. As GBS organizations expand and mature, many companies have found they can dependably be used to drive both cost and productivity improvements year after year. Typical companies see an average of 20 percent cost savings in their first year of GBS operations, and 6 percent savings annually thereafter. They also see 7 percent improvements in quality and customer service, as well as a 9 percent improvement in productivity.

According to The Hackett Group, the employment numbers are also tied to a fundamental shift in the nature of business services work and skills. Over the past decade there has been a dramatic reduction in the need for transaction-oriented jobs in these areas, and a commensurate increase in demand for knowledge-centric positions. The Hackett Group sees a significant talent shortage emerging in specific classes of knowledge-centric roles, including those that: support the strategic transformation and globalization of business services; enable global business operations; and support the transition from a transactional business services model to one focusing more on partnership.

In finance, The Hackett Group's research finds that by 2017, half of all jobs will be knowledge-centric, an increase of over 40 percent since 2003. In procurement, the trend is even more pronounced, with over three quarters of all jobs classified as knowledge-centric by 2017, an increase of over 46 percent since 2003. The Hackett Group's research finds that acquiring, developing, and retaining talent in these areas will be a major challenge for many companies over the next few years.

WHO KNEW CUCUMBERS COULD DO ALL THIS!!!

1. Fat busting: Do you ever wonder why women put cucumbers on their eyes to relieve puffiness? The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus the lack of puffiness. Did you know that you can rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it? Did you also know that it has the same effect on wrinkles? Wow, it makes purchasing those fifty dollar creams seem a little silly, doesn’t it? You can also rub a little bit under your kiddo’s eyes after a long bout of crying to avoid that puffy ‘I cried for an hour straight’ look.

2. Defogger: Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Who has time for that when the kids will be awake at any moment? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice smell that will boost your mood.

3. Headaches: If you suffer from headaches from chasing your babies all day (or pets or your husband), or had a little too much wine with dinner and want to avoid a hangover, eat half of a cucumber before bed. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar, and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hang over or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over.

4. WD-40 replacement: Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on the hinge? Wow, now you don’t have to tear your garage apart looking for that little can with the red straw, and the baby won’t wake up when you slowly open the nursery door to check on him.

5. Crayon on the walls: Take an unpeeled cucumber and rub the crayon off of the walls in the event that your kiddo left you some art. You can also use this technique to erase a pen mistake.

6. Halitosis killer: Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath.

7. Tarnish remover: If you’re finding tarnish on your stainless steel kitchen faucets and appliances? Rub it off with a cucumber slice. Not only will it remove years of tarnish, it will leave it streak free and your hands will thank you, and your kids won’t be put at risk from a dangerous chemical.

8. Energy booster: If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, don’t give Starbucks your five bucks. Instead, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks.

9. Munchy madness: Did you know that European trappers ate cucumbers for energy and to keep from starving to death? If those big burly manly men can eat a cucumber to keep from starving, you can eat one as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. Slice some up and take them in a small plastic container to the movies if your theater doesn’t offer healthy alternatives to munching on butter soaked popcorn.

10. Frugal facial: Slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside of the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

11. Shoe polish: Cut a slice off of your cucumber and rub it on your shoe. It will not only shine it up, but it will repel water.

12. Pest control: Put three or four slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and place them in your garden. The chemicals in the cucumber have a reaction that pests hate. You won’t smell it, but it will drive them from your garden all year long. Replace them periodically.

13. Sunburn: Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect your little ones from sunburn. If you have burnt little kiddos you don’t have any aloe, rub some cucumber on them. Many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns.

14. Blood pressure: Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. If you have it, add cucumbers to your daily diet. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol.

15. Constipation remedy: The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet

How driverless cars could reshape cities

SAN FRANCISCO: By now, seeing one of Google's experimental, driverless cars zipping down Silicon Valley's Highway 101, or parking itself on a San Francisco street, is not all that unusual. Indeed, as automakers like Audi, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz make plans for self-driving vehicles, it is only a matter of time before such cars become a big part of the great American traffic jam.

While driverless cars might still seem like science fiction outside the Valley, the people working and thinking about these technologies are starting to ask what these autos could mean for the city of the future. The short answer is "a lot."

Imagine a city where you don't drive in loops looking for a parking spot because your car drops you off and scoots off to some location to wait, sort of like taxi holding pens at airports. Or maybe it's picked up by a robotic minder and carted off with other vehicles, like a row of shopping carts.

Inner-city parking lots could become parks. Traffic lights could be less common because hidden sensors in cars and streets coordinate traffic. And, yes, parking tickets could become a rarity since cars would be smart enough to know where they are not supposed to be.

As scientists and car companies forge ahead - many expect self-driving cars to become commonplace in the next decade - researchers, city planners and engineers are contemplating how city spaces could change if our cars start doing the driving for us. There are risks, of course: People might be more open to a longer daily commute, leading to even more urban sprawl.

That city of the future could have narrower streets because parking spots would no longer be necessary. And the air would be cleaner because people would drive less. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 30 percent of driving in business districts is spent in a hunt for a parking spot, and the agency estimates that almost 1 billion miles of driving is wasted each year looking for parking.

"What automation is going to allow is repurposing, both of spaces in cities, and of the car itself," said Ryan Calo, an assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Law who specializes in robotics and drones.

Harvard University researchers note that as much as one-third of the land in some cities is devoted to parking spots. Some city planners expect that the cost of homes will fall as more space will become available in cities. If parking on city streets is reduced and other vehicles on roadways become smaller, homes and offices will take up that space. Today's big-box stores and shopping malls require immense areas for parking, but without those needs, they could move further into cities.

The Autonomous Intersection Management project, created by the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin, imagines cities where traffic lights no longer exist but sensors direct the flow of traffic. Although a video showing off the automated traffic intersection looks like total chaos, the researchers insist that such intersections will reduce congestion and fuel costs and can allow cars to drive through cities without stopping.

Of course, getting to a utopian city will take a little longer than circling the block looking for a spot. A spokesman for Audi said a fully automated car would not be available until the end of the decade. And the regulatory issues to be addressed before much of this could come true are, to put it mildly, forbidding.

But the pieces are starting to fall into place, at least enough to excite future-minded thinkers. Last year, Jerry Brown, the governor of California, signed legislation paving the way for driverless cars in California, making it the third state to explicitly allow the cars on the road. And federal agencies are starting to consider their impact. In May, the Transportation Department made its first formal policy statement on autonomous vehicles, encouraging cities to allow testing of driverless cars.

But to some, this promise - or overpromise as the case may be - sounds familiar.

"The future city is not going to be a congestion-free environment. That same prediction was made that cars would free cities from the congestion of horses on the street," said Bryant Walker Smith, a fellow at the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School and a member of the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford. "You have to build the sewer system to accommodate the breaks during the Super Bowl; it won't be as pretty as we're envisioning."

Smith has an alternative vision of the impact of automated cars, which he believes are inevitable. Never mind that nice city center. He says that driverless cars will allow people to live farther from their offices and that the car could become an extension of home.

"I could sleep in my driverless car, or have an exercise bike in the back of the car to work out on the way to work," he said. "My time spent in my car will essentially be very different."

"Driverless cars won't appear in a vacuum," Smith said. Other predictions for the future city imagine fewer traditional-looking cars. Taking their place will be drones and robots that deliver goods.

Oh, and that food-delivery car double-parked outside? That, Calo said, will be replaced by a delivery drone.

My ONLY Three Goals in Life

My ONLY Three Goals in Life

A) I want to be happy.

B) I want to eradicate unhappiness in my life.

C) I want every day to be as smooth as possible. No hassles.

That’s it. I’m not asking for much. I need simple goals else I can’t achieve them.

There’s been at least ten times in my life that everything seemed so low I felt like I would never achieve the above three things and the world would be better off without me. Other times I felt like I was stuck at a crossroads and would never figure out which road to take. Each time I bounced back.

When I look back at these times now I realize there was a common thread. Each time there were four things, and only four things, that were always in place in order for me to bounce back. Now I try to incorporate these four things into a daily practice so I never dip low again.

THE DAILY PRACTICE

A) Physical – being in shape. Doing some form of exercise. In 2003 I woke up at 5am every day and from 5-6am I played “Round the World” on a basketball court overlooking the Hudson River. Every day (except when it rained). Trains would pass and people at 5:30am would wave to me out the window. Now, I try to do yoga every day. But its hard. All you need to do, minimally, is exercise enough to break a sweat for 10 minutes. So about 20-30 minutes worth of exercise a day. This is not to get “ripped” or “shredded”. But just to be healthy. You can’t be happy if you aren’t healthy. Also, spending this time helps your mind better deal with its daily anxieties. If you can breathe easy when your body is in pain then its easier to breathe during difficult situations. Here’s other things that are a part of this but a little bit harder:

Wake up by 4-5am every day.
Go to sleep by 8:30-9. (Good to sleep 8 hours a night!)
No eating after 5:30pm. Can’t be happy if indigested at night.

B) Emotional– If someone is a drag on me, I cut them out. If someone lifts me up, I bring them closer. Nobody is sacred here. When the plane is going down, put the oxygen mask on your face first. Family, friends, people I love – I always try to be there for them and help. But I don’t get close to anyone bringing me down. This rule can’t be broken. Energy leaks out of you if someone is draining you. And I never owe anyone an explanation. Explaining is draining.

Another important rule: always be honest. Its fun. Nobody is honest anymore and people are afraid of it. Try being honest for a day (without being hurtful). Its amazing where the boundaries are of how honest one can be. Its much bigger than I thought. A corollary of this is: I never do anything I don’t want to do. Like I NEVER go to weddings.

C) Mental – Every day I write down ideas. I write down so many ideas that it hurts my head to come up with one more. Then I try to write down five more. The other day I tried to write 100 alternatives kids can do other than go to college. I wrote down eight, which I wrote about here. I couldn’t come up with anymore. Then the next day I came up with another 40. It definitely stretched my head. No ideas today? Memorize all the legal 2 letter words for Scrabble. Translate the Tao Te Ching into Spanish. Need ideas for lists of ideas? Come up with 30 separate chapters for an “autobiography”. Try to think of 10 businesses you can start from home (and be realistic how you can execute them)? Give me 10 ideas of directions this blog can go in. Think of 20 ways Obama can improve the country. List every productive thing you did yesterday (this improves memory also and gives you ideas for today).

The “idea muscle” atrophies within days if you don’t use it. Just like walking. If you don’t use your legs for a week, they atrophy. You need to exercise the idea muscle. It takes about 3-6 months to build up once it atrophies. Trust me on this.

D) Spiritual. I feel that most people don’t like the word “spiritual”. They think it means “god”. Or “religion”. But it doesn’t. I don’t know what it means actually. But I feel like I have a spiritual practice when I do one of the following:

Pray (doesn’t matter if I’m praying to a god or to dead people or to the sun or to a chair in front of me – it just means being thankful. And not taking all the credit, for just a few seconds of the day).

Meditate – Meditation for more than a few minutes is hard. It’s boring. Here I give tips for 60 second meditations. You can also meditate for 15 seconds by really visualizing what it would be like meditate for 60 minutes. Here’s a simple meditation: sit in a chair, keep the back straight, watch yourself breathe. If you get distracted, no problem. Just pull yourself back to your breath. Try it for 5 minutes. Then six.

Being grateful – I try to think of everyone in my life I’m grateful for. Then I try to think of more people. Then more. Its hard.

Forgiving – I picture everyone who has done me wrong. I visualize gratefulness for them (but not pity).

Studying. If I read a spiritual text (doesn’t matter what it is: Bible, Tao Te Ching, anything Zen related, even inspirational self-help stuff, doesn’t matter) I tend to feel good. This is not as powerful as praying or meditating (it doesn’t train your mind to cut out the BS) but it still makes me feel good.

My own experience: I can never achieve the three “simple” goals on a steady basis without doing the above practice on a daily basis. And EVERY TIME I’ve hit bottom (or close to a bottom, or I’ve been at some sort of crossroads.) and started dong the above 4 items (1991, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2008) magic would happen:

The Results

A) Within about one month, I’d notice coincidences start to happen. I’d start to feel lucky. People would smile at me more.

B) Within three months the ideas would really start flowing, to the point where I felt overwhelming urges to execute the ideas.

C) Within six months, good ideas would start flowing, I’d begin executing them, and everyone around me would help me put everything together.

D) Within a year my life was always completely different. 100% upside down from the year before. More money, more luck, more health, etc. And then I’d get lazy and stop doing the practice. And everything falls apart again. But now I’m trying to do it every day.

Its hard to do all of this every day. Nobody is perfect. I don’t know if I’ll do all of these things today. But I know when I do it, it works.

15 ways to select text in a Word document

Besides entering text, selecting text is probably the most common task for most Word users. Almost every task begins by selecting something. Perhaps that's why there are so many ways to select text. The following list includes the methods I use. There are more - I left off a few because I've listed easier methods. If you have a favorite that I haven't listed, please share it with us.

Click and drag
Probably the most intuitive and common way to select text is to click and drag the mouse in any direction.

[Shift]+arrow
To move one character or one line at a time, hold down the [Shift] key while pressing the right and left arrow keys and the up and down arrow keys, respectively.

[Shift]+[Home] | [End]
Pressing [Shift] + [Home] selects everything from the insertion point to the left margin in the current line. Similarly, [Shift]+[End] selects everything from the insert point to the last character to the right.

Double-click
To select the current word, double-click it. Word will select to the left and right of the cursor, until it encounters a space character.

Triple-click
A triple-click selects the current paragraph.

Margin+click
To select an entire line, move the cursor into the left margin. When you see the insertion pointer turn into an arrow pointer, click. Doing so will select the current line. You can also press [Home]+[Shift]+[End], but doing so is a bit awkward.

Margin+click and drag
This selection method is similar to the previous one. If you drag while holding down the mouse, Word will select multiple lines, even paragraphs. Word will stop selecting when you stop dragging.

[Ctrl]+a
Pressing [Ctrl]+a selects the entire document.

[Ctrl]+click
To select a sentence (not just a line), hold down [Ctrl] and click any place within the sentence.

Click+[Shift]+click
To select a block of text, click at one end of the block. Then, hold down the [Shift] key and click a second time at the opposite end of the block.

[Alt]+drag
This combination selects a vertical block. While holding down [Alt], click and drag up or down. (You must press [Alt] first.)

Selection+[Ctrl]+selection
To select two noncontiguous blocks of text, select the first bit of text. Then, hold down [Ctrl] while you select the next, and the next, and the next - use it to select two or several non-contiguous areas. (I probably use this one more than any other besides click and drag - it's great for applying the same format to several spots.)

[Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Right arrow] | [Left arrow]
Use this combination to select from the current position to the right or left of the current word, depending on whether you press the right or left arrow, respectively.

[Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Up arrow] | [Down arrow]
This combination selects from the current position to the beginning or ending of the current paragraph, depending on whether you press the up or down arrow, respectively.

[Alt]+[Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Page Up] | [Page Down]
This is another awkward keystroke combination that selects from the current insertion point to the beginning or the ending of the current window (what you see on the screen), respectively. This one's awkward enough that I'd probably use a quick click and drag instead.

There is a new therapy in the market which is known as:- Chelation Therapy. Or Calation Therapy. According to this therapy any patient who has to undergo by-pass need not undergo the same. The patient is given approx. 18 bottles of blood wherein some medicines are injected alongwith it. The blood cleans the system and removes all the blockages from the heart. The no. of bottles may increase depending upon the age factor and health of the patient. The cost of the blood per bottle would be approx. Rs. 2,500/-. The treatment takes approx. 1 month of time. There are only 4 doctors in India and one of them is Dr. Dhananjay Shah at Malad (Mumbai) another at Karnataka. He has a list of patients who had to undergo by-pass from Lilavati, Hinduja and other major hospitals but after undergoing the above treatment they are absolutely fine and leading a normal life. I give below the Doctors details for your info:- Dr. Dhananjay Shah. (Disp) : 2889 2089 Mob: 98194 39657 shahdhananjay@ rediffmail. com.

Healthy Heart - Cholesterol, Eggs and Oils

Q1. Are eggs bad for health?
Ans. If you have normal cholesterol and if you are leading an active healthy lifestyle, you can eat one egg 4 times a week without worrying about its cholesterol content. Eggs are rich in nutrients and are highly beneficial to health. Eggs are rich in nutrient and are highly beneficial to health. There are innumerable studies, which show that eggs do not increase the risk for heart disease. They have the best quality protein and help to even out blood sugar. Eggs are therefore highly beneficial for those suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). When egg is taken with a high fiber cereal like whole wheat bread or a chappati (whole wheat) the patient does not experience hypoglycemia from breakfast to lunch. Eggs are also beneficial to those suffering from anemia and are full of all-essential amino acids and minerals. However if you have a family history of high cholesterol or if you have high cholesterol then it is wise to either avoid eggs completely or stick to egg whites only.Cholesterol existing in food is safe by it self. It only becomes harmful when it gets oxidized as in dried eggs found in cake mixes, and processed foods. Dehydrated milk, processed meats are harmful as the cholesterol in them is oxidized and it is likely to clog arteries. It is interesting to note that consumption of animal products containing cholesterol like red meat, shrimps, lobsters, eggs has been reduced significantly as compared to 50 years ago. Yet, the incidence of heart disease has increased almost ten-fold. This is because our bodies today are unable to handle the cholesterol in food correctly due to increased intake of refined foods, sugar, processed foods, soft-drinks, lack of physical activity, stress, all of which leads to increased production of free radicals resulting in degenerative diseases.
Q2. What are the different types of oils and which are healthier.
Ans : Oils - Fatty acids are of 2 main types Satuarated Fatty Acids ( SFA ) and Unsatuarated Fatty Acids ( USFA ). Of these two, USFA's are healthier than SFA's. USFA's are of two types Monounsaturated fatty acid ( MUFA ) and Polyunsaturated fatty acid ( PUFA ). Of these two MUFA's are more healthier.
Q 3. What should I do to increase my HDL (good cholesterol) and decrease my LDL (bad cholesterol) ?
Ans. Good cholesterol (HDL) can be increased by eating fats that are beneficial to our health. These beneficial fats are rich in omega-3 fatty acid found in walnuts, soyabeans, fish like mackeral (Bangada), tuna & olive oil. Garlic and onions are also very useful in raising HDL levels. Almonds, most whole pulses, fruits like Apples, Oranges and Vegetables like Capsicum, pimentos, broccoli, leafy Vegetables are beneficial. Olives and Avocados contain beneficial MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acid) which helps increase the good cholesterol. You can reduce your LDL (bad cholesterol levels) by cutting off your intake of saturated fats found in milk cheese, chicken, red meat, maida and junk food. Avoid oils containing PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid ) such as corn oil, oil from sunflower seeds, Safflower seeds as they promote the oxidation of LDL that causes artery damage. Use oils rich in MUFA such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, canola oil etc. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables to at least 4-5 servings a day. Take vitamin E supplements as it prevents oxidation LDL. If you have high blood pressure, you must avoid vitamin E supplementation as it may cause slight increase in blood pressure. Vitamin E also thins the blood so if you are on blood thinning medication you should take vitamin E only under medical supervision. Eating foods rich in soluble fiber as in oatbran and whole pulses helps reduce total cholesterol.

Subprime Lending

Subprime lending, also known as 'B-paper', 'near-prime' or 'second chance lending', is a term that refers to the practice of making loans to borrowers who do not qualify for market interest rates because of problems with their credit history. Subprime loans or mortgages are risky for both creditor and debtors because of the combination of high interest rates, bad credit history, and the murky financial situations often associated with subprime applicants.
A subprime loan, which could be a mortgage, car loan or even a credit card debt, is, by definition, made to someone who could not qualify for a more favourable rate. Subprime borrowers typically have low credit scores and either a limited credit history, or histories of payment delinquencies, charges-offs or bankruptcies. Because of the risks associated with this form of lending, a subprime loan may come with higher interest rates, regular fees or an up-front charge.
Generally, subprime borrowers will display a range of credit risk characteristics that may include:
Two or more loan repayments paid past 30 days due in the last 12 months, or one or more loan payments paid past 60 days due in the last 36 months;
Judgment, foreclosure, repossession, or non-payment of a loan in the prior 24 months;
Bankruptcy in the last 5 years;
A relatively high default probability as evidenced by a low credit bureau risk score.
Some subprime lenders have increased their loan production and servicing income by securitizing and selling the loans they originate in the asset-backed securities market. Strong demand from investors (fund managers, investment banks, insurers, hedge funds, etc) and favourable accounting rules often allow securitization pools to be sold at a gain, providing further incentive for lenders to expand their subprime lending program. However, the securitization of subprime loans carries inherent risks, including interim credit risk and liquidity risk, that are potentially greater than those for securitizing prime loans. Accounting for the sale of subprime pools requires assumptions that can be difficult to quantify, and erroneous assumptions could lead to the significant overstatement of an institution's assets.
The recent turmoil in the financial markets illustrates the volatility of the secondary market for subprime loans and the significant liquidity risk incurred when originating a large volume of loans intended for securitization and sale. Investors can quickly lose their appetite for risk in an economic downturn or when financial markets become volatile. As a result, institutions that have originated, but not yet sold, pools of subprime loans may be forced to sell the pools at deep discount (and there may be no takers). And institutions that have acquired the assets via a securitization may find that the pool is difficult to value, and that liquidity disappears in the event that pools need to be sold.

COLOSTOMY BAGS

'Investment Dealers are excited to announce the newest structured finance product – Constant Obligation Leveraged Originated Structured Oscillating Money Bridged Asset Guarantees, or COLOSTOMY BAGS.
Designed to accommodate the most sophisticated investment strategies, Colostomy Bags contain the equity tranches of Structured High Interest Taxable Derivatives, or SHIT, and are leveraged an infinite amount of times through the innovative use of derivatives.
'Its an actively managed, unlimited liability, open ended investment with no maturity date, which pays LIBOR plus 5,000 and has no correlation to traditional investments' said a spokesman for the Investment Dealer who engineered the product. 'It's based on a CDO structure, but it's designed to default BEFORE the first coupon payment, which you'll agree has no correlation with stodgy traditional investments and is a perfect fit for portable alpha strategies'. Following the default, each month more leverage is added to the structure to pay for the coupon and the Dealer's fees which are set at 80%. 'We feel the fees are reasonable, given the adrenaline rush you'll get each month attempting to mark these'.
The Colostomy Bags carry a AAAA rating, based on the rating agencies opinion that they are even safer than Treasuries. 'You can't use traditional credit analysis to value these babies, no sir-ree', said a spokesman for a rating agency. 'Just like Icelandic Banks, we give them the highest rating because you just know that the Fed will bail out all the hedgies who buy these things. And the best part is, the beauty of this structure is that the loss given default is NEGATIVE, so by extension we feel that the CDS will trade through Treasuries'. Inhaling deeply on a fatty, he continued, 'We've been tinkering with our model, which served us well for Enron and the Telecoms in '02, and our stress testing shows that the probability of loss in the senior tranche is close to zero'.
A real money investor, huddled high-up on a windowsill outside his office, said he remained optimistic about holding the Colostomy Bags, but was a bit concerned with the 95% decline in value on the first day they traded. 'We've taken a bit of a haircut on these but I'm waiting to see the first servicer report, which should arrive in a few months. At first I was annoyed that the dealer who sold them to me refused to make a market in them, but that makes my job easier since I'm not tempted to sell'.
We located a hedge fund manager at a due diligence meeting in the VIP room at Score's. He said he was skeptical of the structure at first, but was dared into buying it by a fixed income salesman. "He said to me, 'what's wrong with you, its quadruple A-rated, just buy it, what are you a pussy?' He also said it was going into 'an index' (although he didn't say which one). But that was good enough for me, bro, as most our funds belong to clients anyway'.

Warm water and heart attacks

This is an article about the warm water we have after after our meals, and about heart attacks. This makes sense.. the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals...not cold water...maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!!

Nothing to lose, everything to gain... For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks: You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.

Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

FIZZY SOFT DRINKS AND YOUR TEETH

A lot has been said and written about the harmful effects of Fizzy carbonated soft drinks on the teeth and body, but is this really true or is it just a media hype?

INGREDIENTS OF FIZZY DRINKS:
Most colas contain 90% water, sugar, carbon dioxide, phosphoric acid, citric acid, caffeine and other additives & preservatives. The acid level (pH) of colas has been measured at around 2.5 (1 being most acidic and 7 is for tap water). Citric acid is more acidic and this is found more in non-cola drinks like 7-up, Sprite etc.

EFFECT OF FIZZY DRINKS ON TEETH:
There is a two-fold effect. Each time you take a drink of a soda you get 20 seconds of acid attack on your teeth. The second effect is because of sugar that causes mouth bacteria to release more acids. These acids strip the natural protective layer on your teeth (pellicle) and the enamel begins to slowly lose its natural minerals and therefore breakdown and lead to decay. You can feel the damage done to the tooth surface by passing your tongue along the front teeth after having a drink. You will feel that the surface has become rough. This is because the acid has etched the enamel. Soft drinks also lead to gradual staining of teeth.

WILL A TOOTH LEFT IN A GLASS OF COKE DISSOLVE OVERNIGHT?
This is a very common "Urban Legend" that is often discussed on the Internet, but very misleading. A 2004 study by the University of Maryland Dental School, in the US, submerged extracted teeth in glasses of water, cola, non-cola, coffee, iced tea, Nesquik, orange juice & drain cleaner. It was found that after 14 days the teeth hadn’t disappeared, but there was considerable damage done to all the teeth. Non-cola drinks caused the most tooth erosion followed by cola drinks. According to this study, two weeks of total immersion in a soft drink is the equivalent of about 13 years of actual drinking. After 4 weeks, the tooth submerged in cola had become brown and sticky. The other glasses showed milder disintegration of teeth. The tooth in the drain cleaner was pearly white (because of bleaching effect) and had split into two.One must remember that these were dead teeth while the teeth in our mouth are alive. Also this study doesn’t take into effect the protection offered by saliva. This study doesn't duplicate life exactly, but it shows how the enamel is definitely dissolving off the teeth.

WHAT DO COLA COMPANIES HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS?
Coca Cola’s website states that "Almost all foods naturally contain a small amount of acid, including fruit juices & buttermilk. Phosphoric acid provides phosphorus, which is an essential element of bones and tissues. None of these foods are acidic enough to harm our body tissues. Our own natural stomach acid is stronger. Insufficient calcium intake, hormonal imbalances, lack of physical activity, and normal aging processes are the primary causes of weak bones."

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS DAMAGE:
Use a straw to sip, as this reduces the contact to the teeth. Swishing with water after having a drink can neutralize the acid. One way to reduce the effect of acid is to drink it only during meals. Adding ice to the drink dilutes the acid. Regular tooth brushing, especially at night, helps remove the damaging acids. Finish drinking soon instead of sipping it gradually. Regular Professional Dental Cleaning is advised to maintain teeth.

CONCLUSION:
Drinking any type of soft drinks- cola, non-cola or fruit juices can cause varying degrees of harm to your teeth. They all contain acids that cause teeth erosion. They contain sugar, which causes decay. But there are no vitamins or minerals in fizzy drinks unlike fruit juices and other natural foods, and hence we don’t derive any benefits from them.We don’t need to stop drinking fizzy drinks. We just need to understand what’s going on and take the appropriate preventative steps to reduce the problem.
